Big Stitchy Dreams

I've got ideas. Lots of 'em. I've got all KINDS of ideas for things I want to create. I've had to start a notebook to get it all down, lest some wonderful idea fall clear out of my head without my realizing it.

I need to make. To create. I need to do something with my hands that will create an end product. I used to do this all the time as a child, but drifted away from it once I started university and then entered the working world.

I had decided that 2009 was going to be the year of trying new things for me. One of those new things was taking up crochet. I have taught myself how to do it through various books and websites (I heart ravelry.com). I have
n't actually completed any projects yet, but all the projects I've begun are big blankety things that take a lot of yarn and a lot of time.

Now I want to move on to embroidery. The potential for beautiful handmade objects has kept me up the last two nights just dreaming and reading and clicking and dropping ideas onto the pages of my notebook.

I swear to you that I'm not a crazy cat lady. Sure, things aren't looking up for me, as the first pictures posted here both today and yesterday have contained the cat. But in my defense this was a photo intended to show the texture of the basketweave blanket I'm working on, and she got in the way.

I shouldn't avoid taking the bus to work as much as I do. It really is quite a pretty (mile long!) walk to my bus stop... And I save money in gas & parking. And I get more exercise... But it means getting out of bed earlier and that makes Kate surly.

My co-worker had to haul out a typewriter at work today and go old-school. I couldn't resist giving it a try. I. Failed. Miserably.

Ultimate frisbee gives me shin splints.

I'd like to give running the half marathon another try. I think I give that some thought every year. And every year I find reasons to avoid training or those reasons find me. Sports and exercise keep me sane, though. I should just get off my butt and do it.

The list of things I'd like to accomplish is getting longer and longer.

  • learn embroidery/crewelwork
  • learn to sew
  • run half marathon & beat previous time (wouldn't take much...)
  • learn to quilt (nerd alert...)
It goes on. I've got a whole notebook dedicated to things I want to do in my lifetime too.

And if it weren't bedtime and raining, I'd lace up the shoes and get out there for a run right now.

But it's cold and wet out there. And my bed is calling to me.
