Yesterday we threw a jack & jill wedding shower for my sister-in-law. Her fiance was born in Scotland, so we decided to call it a "lad & lass shower" and do it in his honour.
Highlight of the night: the highland games!

Above is yours truly doing the caber toss. The guys actually threw a section of a hydro pole (some of the girls, including myself, gave it a try as well, though with limited success in getting it to land at 12 o'clock, or anywhere near it).
I can't look at that picture without laughing at the look on my face.
Redirect...
I want/need to learn how to sew. I need to pace myself with all these crafts I want to learn. But it would be so satisfying to learn how to sew. I could make myself girly pajama pants that fit! Anything cute that I see in stores is flapping WELL above my ankles when I put them on... I can't imagine what it'd be like to have a comfy pair of long-enough pj pants to wear around the house...
Further to my list of things I'd like to accomplish...
- play a game of tennis (my patient husband and I will sometimes go and hit balls back and forth at one another, but I can't serve and have only held a raquet a handful of times)
- run a marathon
- run a 10k race
- learn to bake with yeast
- visit Ireland
- hang my own artwork in my house (photograph, painting, drawing, etc. - I have yet to deem anything I've ever done as being worthy of being put on the wall as a piece of art...)
- I'd love to go back to Quebec and use my French
- own a dog and train it well
- buy a house (should be doing that in the next year - it's scary!)
- have a vegetable garden
- take up cross country skiing for the first time since my childhood
And speaking of cures - what's the cure for a Peanut M&M addiction? It's been plaguing me for nearly a year.
And speaking of year - I still have wedding thank you cards to hand out and I HATE that. I was SO good with all of my wedding shower thank you cards. I am a terrible, TERRIBLE bride. Those guests must think I'm so rude.
And the thing is - I think they're all written out. It's just the addressing and mailing away that's taken so flipping long for me to get too. (See there's that bit about lacking motivation again...)
Ah well.
Here are some random pictures from my camera so far this month (a terrible sentence, I apologize!)
This is the entire embroidered picture that my mother-in-law did waaaay back when. Not as old as her mother's embroidery that she also showed me, but still interesting to me, nonetheless. Those are some 70s/80s colour choices!
Sitting around the bonfire after the Lad & Lass Shower. Can't beat a good fire.

Without a tripod the only place my camera took happy pictures was on the ground!
My Mom has a huge tub full of buttons from the 60s and seventies. They are HILARIOUS. I should see if I can steal them from her and mail you a few gems. Thumbs up shaped button? yes please.
Blog more. I have time to read people's blogs now. Do it.
