Slice of Life, à la mode

This is what I'll be reading before bed tonight. And on the bus tomorrow. And before bed tomorrow night. These days my fiction comes to me in the form of audiobooks. Lovely, lovely, unabridged audiobooks that I listen to during the hour-long drives to and from my home town in the evenings. Or to work in the morning when I've been too lazy to get up early enough/walk to the bus. Bad, bad Kate. Parking downtown is costly. But laying in bed for that extra 30 minutes feels SOOoo good.

This week I've managed to take the bus every day. And brought my lunch every day. Good, obedient, thrifty Kate. I am proud of you this week. Saving for a down payment on a house is a big scary ordeal. I feel so grown up, budgeting and saving, budgeting and saving. Or trying to. I have lapses. Like our impromptu Chinese-food restaurant outing today...

Where was I going with all of this? Nowhere.

Today I phoned up a client and, after announcing who I was, I asked him how he was doing. A simple pleasantry, as I'm currently getting to know all of these new clients. Just trying to be nice.

His response:

"I'm busy. What is it?"

Rude as can be.

And lo, in the wake of the Tuesday From Hell, spurred on by this latest assault, a new Kate was born. And this one vows to have a thicker skin.
