I received some mail today.
In return for a crocheted toque (which was sent with with a little note card with washing instructions, which is why I find Michelle's note so hilarious), I received a most awesome "sock monster"... Though he's not so monstrous. He's AWESOME. And hilarious, because Michelle and I have this thing about owls that goes WAY back.
When I moved into the house that I live in now, I could tell, simply by a dark shape on the fake wood panelling in the living room, that the lady who used to live here must have had a macrame owl on that wall for EONS. So long that all the wood panelling around it had faded, leaving the shape of what could only have been a large macrame owl.
Add to that a series of other owl-related things that I've since discovered around the house as I've been de-old-lady-ifying it (new term, as of this very moment), and lo a running joke is born.
He's wonderful. And hilarious.
And hypnotic...
Oh this made my day! I should do crafty exchanges like this more often! I LOVE getting mail, especially when it's unique, hilarious, one-of-a-kind mail.

Who? Who? Who else finds Martin Pendleworth AH-mazing.
The answer is I do.
My favorites are the carrot-beaked nose, and the dangly legs.
At one point, his legs were about 2 feet long. I trimmed them. I trimmed his legs.
hi kate, I couldn't email you (no address) about where to find the crochet book i had blogged about, so hopefully you will see this comment. Search on amazon or yes asia by isbn should find it. I think it is out of stock at the moment - I bought mine from simply pretty japanese bead books on ebay (a bit pricey) but perhaps you have a kinokuniya near you? Hope that helps, Anna
Thanks Anna. I think I've updated my account so it'll show my email address now. I hope.
One of these days I'll work up the courage to buy a Japanese crochet book online. They're SO gorgeous.
